Julia Barnoin
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE & Labmanager
Julia Barnoin is a student in the Matter Design Computation program at Cornell University and a participant in Cornell Tech. She graduated from LaCambre Horta University Belgium and worked in Europe at OOPEAA and EMBT Tagliabue Miralles. Julia’s interest is in adaptive and kinetic structures. Her previous research was focused on dynamic folded structures inspired by origami.
Shuo Feng
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Shuo Feng is an interdisciplinary design technology researcher. As a design technologist and researcher, he is particularly interested in HCI issues in the design process, focusing on providing a more intuitive and instructive interaction between designers and computational tools.
Frances Gregor
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Frances Gregor, an undergraduate pursuing a B.Arch at Cornell University, is a Research Associate with JSLab. Gregor is currently involved with the interdisciplinary Urol:en project, and has previously worked with 3D-printing ceramic fabrication methods. They have additional design experience working at design offices such as WRNS Studio and Sutro Architects in San Francisco.
Chenming He
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Chenming He, a graduate student pursuing M.S Matter Design Computation at Cornell University, is a research assistant in the JSLab. His research interests include complex pattern generation and robotics. His current work focuses on how to use emergent space-filling methodologies to impact digital fabrication and architecture design.
Alexander Kyaw
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Alexander Htet Aung Kyaw, an undergraduate pursuing a B.Arch from Cornell University, is a Research Associate with JSLab. Kyaw has engaged extensively with the interaction of digital fabrication, optimization with sustainable design, and has additional experience working in design offices such as Proximity Designs, Myanmar.
Anita Lin
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Anita Lin is pursuing a Master of Science in the MDC (Matter Design Computation) program directed by Jenny Sabin. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from SUNY Buffalo and her academic interests fall in kinetic kit-of-parts construction. She joined JS Lab as a research associate and is currently involved in the fabrication of SAA (Sustainable Architecture and Aesthetics), a customized building-integrated-photovoltaics project.
Yehong Mi
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Yehong Mi, a graduate pursuing a M.S. in Matter Design Computation from Cornell University, is a Research Associate with JSLab and holds an M.Arch2 from SCI-Arc. Yehong's research interests include material science and ceramic 3D-printing.
Ivania Rivera
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Ivania Rivera, a master’s student in the Matter Design Computation program at Cornell University, is a Research Associate with JSLab and holds a B.Arch from Syracuse University. Ivania’s research delves into fabricating with bio-based materials, specifically mycelium. She is currently working with constructing 3D-printed self-assembly networks and looks to further her focus on growing materials with the aid and accuracy of computation, robotic fabrication, and growth simulation.
Cardinal Robinson
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Cardinal Robinson, an undergraduate pursuing a B.S. in Fiber Science and Design from Cornell University, is a research associate with the JSLab. Cardinal has been primarily involved in the Composite Knit project, focusing on the integration of a composite-based yarn into various knit-structures that result in robust structural yet compliant forms. His research interests include computational textile design, emerging materials technology, and biologically informed and integrated design (driven by involvement with the Urol:en project).
Zada Stuart
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Zada Stuart, an undergraduate pursuing a B.S. in Fiber Science and Design from Cornell University, is a research associate with the JSLab. Her work with the JSLab primarily consists of documentation and analysis of the composite knit project. Her main interests lie in Androgynous wear, sustainability, coding and knitwear in design.
Daniel Woo
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Daniel Woo, a Civil Engineering major at Cornell University, is a Research Associate with JSLab. He is currently involved in the inter-university project Urol:en, which explores the convergence of biology and architecture and how emergent system dynamics generate adaptable, robust, and resilient forms. Daniel’s primary research interests lie in assisting designs seamless in architectural, structural, and sustainable focuses.
Hoon Yoon
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Hoon Yoon is a senior grad student of Cornell M.S.MDC program and a designer who has been experiencing the realms of Computational Design, HCI, Tangible User Interface(TUI), UI/UX, Industrial, and Interaction Design. From school to the business field, he has been participating in diverse projects linked with emerging technologies like Mixed Reality, Sensor-integrated Tangible UX, Connected Car, and IoT. Recently in the industrial field he was working as an interaction designer(UI) in the UX Platform Group of Corporate Design Center(CDC) at Samsung Electronics, participating in designing UI/UX of IoT service platform. In regard to his most recent academic activity at Cornell, he has been doing a thesis project about designing and simulating MR-based holographic cellular structures embodying plant's morphogenetic traits like cell growth emergent structure influenced by internal regulatory systems.
Chi Zhang
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Chi Zhang, an undergraduate pursuing a B.Arch from Cornell University, is a research associate with JSLab. Chi’s primary research interests reside in digital fabrication and computational design. Prior to joining the team, Chi has worked at Robotic Construction Lab at Cornell as a research assistant and engaged extensively with free-form timber structure design and robotic bandsaw fabrication methods.
